London, Apr 21(ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Wayne Rooney to break all type of records, and has tipped him to become United's all time leading scorer.
Rooney needs a goal to equal Man U legends George Best and Dennis Viollet's record of 179 goals for the Red Devils.
Ferguson is certain Rooney will go all the way and knock Bobby Charlton off the No 1 spot by surpassing his 249 goals.
"He is only 26. He's got time on his side to beat all types of records now. What did Bobby get, 249? He's every chance of beating that, hasn't he? I'm sure he will do it," The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.
Rooney requires four goals in United's final four league games to surpass his best total in a season of 34.
"Wayne is the one player who has scored regularly for us this season. I always felt a few years back that he was a player who got goals in clutches but now it evens itself out, which is good. He got two for us last Sunday and his goal scoring record is terrific," Ferguson said.
Ferguson, who had subbed Rooney in the last two games and even referred to him as being "careless" in last Sunday's 4-0 home win against Aston Villa, believes he is the man to perform at the big occasion, starting on Sunday at Old Trafford against Everton.
"I've always said that Rooney is a player who plays on the edge. He likes the edge of a big game and it's a big game on Sunday," he said. (ANI)
