New Delhi, April 20 (IANS) A 43-year-old transporter was arrested for raping his 15-year-old niece in the capital, police said Friday.
Vinod Kumar was arrested Wednesday evening after his niece along with her mother complained to the police about him raping her three months ago in her house in west Delhi's Kanjhawala.
Kumar, who runs a transport business in Kanjhawla area, sexually assaulted the victim when no family member was present in the house.
The victim lives with her family at Mahavir Vihar in Kanjhawala.
"The accused used to threaten the victim with dire consequences if she tried to reveal the incident to anyone," said a senior police official.
According to the official, the girl confided in her friend who informed the class teacher.
The teacher then informed her family members after which the incident came to light.
Medical examination of the victim confirmed rape.
"The accused was arrested Wednesday and has been sent to judicial custody by a district court," said the official.
