London, Thu, 19 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 19 (ANI): A pair of distinctive round-lensed spectacles belonging to 'the Father of Indian Nation' Mahatma Gandhi has been auctioned for 41,000 pounds.

Also, a bottle containing some of the soil the Indian independence campaigner fell on after he was assassinated aged 78 in 1948 went for 12,000 pounds.

The items were part of an archive relating to Gandhi, which sold for a total of 128,000-pound this week at Mullock's auction house in Ludlow, Shropshire.

Others items included a sewing kit, letters, photographs and his prayer book.

"There was a great deal of interest from India in these items that are revered and almost worshipped," the Daily Express quoted Richard Westwood-Brookes, auctioneer, as saying. (ANI)
