Miscreants fire at college principal in Kanpur, kill one

Kanpur, Apr 19 (ANI): Unknown miscreants on Thursday fired shots at a college principal in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur city, and killed one person.

According to reports, college principal Saroj Kumari Shukla was critically injured when six unknown assailants opened fire upon her when she was leaving her residence in a car along with her driver and daughter-in-law.

The driver died on the spot.

"My mother-in-law and I had left home and the driver was also with us. As soon as we sat in the car, suddenly, two people came from the front and four from behind and opened fire. Our driver died on the spot and my mother-in-law is in a very critical condition," said Prem Kanti, Shukla's daughter-in-law.

Shukla, who sustained a bullet injury in the attack, was rushed to the nearest hospital.

Meanwhile, police have assured strict action against the attackers.

"There is a long-standing enmity between the family of the victim and the attackers, and have legal tangles. We are also taking this into consideration and we are thoroughly investigating. We will take strict actions against the attackers," a senior police official said. (ANI)
