Law enforcement agencies clueless about Hindu kidnapped from Quetta

Islamabad, April 18 (ANI): Pakistan's law enforcement agencies still have no clue about the whereabouts of Hindu medic Dr Rajesh Kumar who was kidnapped from Quetta on February 13.

The kidnappers had contacted Kumar's family and demanded a ransom of Rs 20 million, but reduced the amount to Rs 10 million, sources close to relatives of Kumar said.umar's family being unable to arrange the ransom money said that they knew that the police would not do anything, adding that people kidnapped earlier were only freed after the ransom was paid.

The Express Tribune could not reach the senior police officials investigating the case for comments, despite several calls.

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Balochistan chapter, almost 34 Hindus mostly traders have been kidnapped from different parts of Balochistan since 2011.

"Few are still in captivity of the kidnappers while others were released after payment of a huge amount as ransom to kidnappers," Tahir Hussain, Vice Chairman HRCP Balochistan told the paper.

The HRCP has urged the government to take stringent action to stop the kidnappings of Hindu traders adding that Hindus were specifically targeted.

A former senior police officer in Balochistan said that the situation in Balochistan has been worsening due to the lack of senior police officers in the region.

Kumar is the son of Dr Nand Lal, a member of the Quetta chapter of HRCP and the Pak-India People's Forum for Peace and Democracy. (ANI)
