Mehbooba Mufti flays Centre's laxity on stopping graft in J-K

Rajouri, Tue, 17 Apr 2012 ANI

Rajouri, Apr 17 (ANI): People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the Central Government for its laxity in stopping graft in Jammu and Kashmir.

"While the Central Government has acted against its members accused in the Commonwealth Games scam and the telecom scam, it has not acted against those responsible for graft in Jammu and Kashmir," Mufti told media here.

"Unfortunately, when we see the government's attitude, they take action at the centre, but as far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, they are facilitating crime and corruption in politics. Action was taken against Suresh Kalmadi and Kanimozhi, but here there was such a scandal, Haji Yusuf was killed. There are so many corruption charges, ministers have bought property in Dubai and are building farmhouses here, the chief minister has corruption charges against him but unfortunately, there has been no action," Mufti added.

She also said that the Omar Abdullah government had no political will to repeal the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

"What can Omar Abdullah say about the revocation of the AFSPA? He wanted to draw attention away from Haji Yusuf's murder, so he picked up other issues. Many states in our country spoke against the draconian National Counter Terrorism Centre proposal, but the National Conference has already voted for it in Parliament," Mufti said. (ANI)
