Melbourne, Apr 16(ANI): Australian batsman Ricky Ponting continues to struggle as his team's top order failed to click on the first day of the second Test against the West Indies.
Australians will resume day two at their score of 5-208. Australian vice captain Shane Watson scored a resilient half-century, while Clarke batted for over two hours to score 45.
Opener Dave Warner made 29 off 42 balls, though he rarely found the middle of his bat and was seldom at ease at the crease, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Both Michael Hussey (26) and Mathew Wade (11) survived a testing spell from off-spinners Shane Shillingford and Narsingh Deonarine who have picked up three wickets each.
Much responsibility now rests on Hussey and Wade to steer Australia to a score of beyond 300.
Australia had earlier departed from their only pace policy and opted for two spinners Nathan Lyon and Michael Beer for the Test because the wicket is expected to offer assistance to spinners.
Australia last played two frontline spinners in the fourth Test against India in Nagpur, in 2008 when leg-spinner Cameron White and off-spinner Jason Krejza formed an unlikely spin duo. (ANI)
