Mayawati slams UP Government over plans to convert memorial park

Agra, Mon, 16 Apr 2012 ANI

Agra, Apr 16 (ANI): Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has criticized the Samajwadi Party (SP)-led state government over its alleged plans to convert memorial structures built by her government.

Addressing a rally here, Mayawati advised the state government to avoid taking such steps.

"In response to the reports that the current Samajwadi Party government wishes to open hospitals and educational institutions inside the parks and statue premises, I feel this step is not only wrong but also not in compliance to law. If the state government initiates any such wrong step then not only in the province but also the country's law and order situation can become unstable, "said Mayawati.

She further said the so called conversion would be demeaning to the intended motive behind construction of the memorial structures built with billions of public money while she was in office.

"The SP government should not indulge in any wrong activity involving the parks and statues of our saints and revered leaders that further generates a dangerous situation for it," said Mayawati.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has repeatedly said that empty spaces in the parks, built at great public expense by his predecessor Mayawati, would be used for constructing hospitals or colleges for the welfare of the people of the state. (ANI)
