Kyber Pakhtunkhwa's initial probe blames agencies for Bannu jailbreak

Islamabad, Apr 16(ANI): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Interior Ministry's preliminary investigation report has accused police and intelligence agencies for the Bannu jailbreak incident and termed it as an agencies' 'failure'.

The ministry has sent the preliminary investigation report to the federal interior ministry.

Over 384 prisoners had escaped from different barracks of the Central Prison, Bannu when Taliban militants stormed the prison.

According to the report, at least 150 militants attacked the jail, who came in 25 vehicles and conducted an operation till two hours.

The police force could not reach the Central Prison on time despite the presence of three police stations in the vicinity.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said 20 high profile prisoners, including Adnan Rasheed, who was involved in an attack on former President General Pervez Musharraf, were among the 384 prisoners who fled Bannu Prison after the attack.

He added that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Akbar Hoti has rejected claims of police arriving late at the location of the incident. (ANI)
