New Delhi, Apr 15 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijender Gupta on Sunday expressed confidence that his party would win in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.
"We are confident that the BJP will come to power, the people have faith in the BJP and this is the time to teach the Congress a lesson, the inflation and corruption that the Congress has given to the people of Delhi and people feel that only BJP can teach the Congress a lesson"," Gupta told media here after casting his vote.
"I want to urge people to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise," he added.
The polling started at 8.00 a.m. and will continue till 5.30 p.m. The counting of votes would be done on Tuesday.
The electoral fate of 2,423 candidates would be sealed during the polling held in 272 wards of the three civic bodies-East, South and North-carved out of the existing MCD.
There are 104 each wards in South and North Corporations and 64 in the East, of which 138 seats are reserved for women. South has the highest number of 904 candidates followed by North (885) and East (634).
The municipal polls is seen as an indicator for what is in store for the Assembly polls which is 18 months away. (ANI)
