'Forgetting 2008 terror attack on Sri Lankan cricket team to take many years'

Karachi , Sun, 15 Apr 2012 ANI

Karachi, Apr 15(ANI): It will take many more years to completely forget the 2008 terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus in Lahore that had raised questions on the future of international cricket in Pakistan, an article in a Pakistan daily has said.

Writing for the Express Tribune, the article written by Daily Times Sports Editor Saleem Khaliq pointed out that Bangladesh has refused to tour Pakistan for the upcoming series though there have been detailed talks and reports about the issue.

"Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt failed to bring teams to Pakistan, perhaps afraid of a follow-up of the Liberty event. Zaka Ashraf, however, as soon as he took charge, vowed resumption of international cricket in the country, desperately trying his luck with various boards but nothing concrete has been established thus far," it added.

The article said the solution to the issue lies in tackling Pakistan's weaknesses and highlighted that Karachi has been experiencing severe unrest in the past two weeks, rendering the city unsafe for common man let alone guest cricketers.

It said Pakistan should try to revive international cricket by inviting smaller teams to the country and added the proposed Pakistan Premier League can be the next step in restoring international teams' tour to the country. (ANI)
