London, Sat, 14 Apr 2012 ANI

London, April 13 (ANI): Male staff at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is paid an average of 10 percent more salary than the women staff, statistics have revealed.

According to the statistics released under the Freedom of Information Act, men held twice the number of senior posts than women in the organization and earned an average 17,000 pounds more.

The statistics revealed that the organization has 82 men in the top management grade with an average salary of 165,000 pounds, as compared with 42 women, who earned 148,000 pounds, The Telegraph reported.

The salary difference was, however, not apparent in lower grades, with both genders being paid an average of 99,000 pounds, but there were 223 males as compared to 111 women in the organisation.

Women across all levels in the organization were paid an average salary of 5,000 pounds less than men and earned 37,100 pounds a year as compared to 41,800 pounds earned by men.

The figures could re-ignite the controversy over BBC's treatment of female staff after it was accused of sidelining older women presenters. (ANI)
