Kolkata, April 12 (IANS) The Rs 1.25 crore prize money Mcleod Russel Tour Championship - the country's highest prize purse golf event - will be played at the age-old Royal Calcutta Golf Club here Dec 12-15.
The event, where only the top 60 players on the Rolex Rankings are eligible to take part, will be the year-ending championship of the Professional Golf Tour of India, the organisers said at a media meet.
World's largest tea producer McLeod Russel has taken three-year (2012-14) title rights to the PGTI year ending championship. "The prize purse will be Rs 1.25 croee in the inaugural year, rs 1.35 crore the next year and Rs
1.5 crore in 2014," the company's managing director Aditya Khaitan said.
The tournament will be a 72-hole stroke play championship and no cut will be applied after 36 holes. All competitors will be assured of prize money, said PGTI director Padamjit Sandhu.
