Beijing, Apr 12 (ANI): China has reportedly banned web celebrities and people involved in scandals from appearing as guests on television shows.
According to The Southern Metropolis Daily, the ban was imposed by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT).
SARFT's deputy director Li Wei said that TV programmes, especially news programmes, should not be too recreational or vulgar.
The China Daily quoted Wei, as saying that the programmes focused on providing career services would be banned from boosting audience ratings by spoofing job seekers.
This is the latest step taken by the Chinese authorities to crackdown on 'unethical' television programming.
Last year, China imposed a ban on sex-related advertisements on the country's radio and TV.
Broadcasters were also instructed to examine advertisements related to drugs, medical equipment, health supplements and TV shopping in a serious manner before airing them. (ANI)
