Beijing, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 ANI

Beijing, Apr 10 (ANI): Nearly one hundred billion spam messages were sent in China in 2011, a latest survey has revealed.

The results suggested that over 10 billion were intercepted by the security software, 360 mobile phone guard for 70 million users and about 100 billion spam messages harassed Chinese mobile phone users in the past year, the China Daily reports.

According to a survey released by the Internet Society of China, it has been found that, on an average, phone users received 11.4 unwanted messages each week, with 22.6 percent of the total messages sent in the latter half of 2011.

Fake messages topped the list. At least 65.2 percent of mobile phone users claimed that they received messages saying they had won a prize while 46.6 percent of them received messages pretending to be from a bank.

The survey comes in the wake of Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology set to launch a three- month campaign to screen group delivery services that send spam messages and demanded mobile phone operators strengthen filtering systems. (ANI)
