Lyon needs to adapt to Windies conditions quickly to retain Test berth: Report

Bridgetown, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 ANI

Bridgetown, Apr 10(ANI): Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon needs to learn fast in his Test career and adapt quickly to the West Indies conditions if he is to retain his berth in the squad for the remaining series.

Lyon has struggled to adjust to the Caribbean wickets, which do not offer as much pace or bounce as those back home, and is likely to come under strong pressure from Michael Beer for the next Test, the report added.

With the venues for the remaining matches likely to be more spin-friendly, the Australians need Lyon to leave open the option of playing two frontline slow bowlers in Trinidad and Dominica matches, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul, however refused to term Lyon a weak link in the tourists' attack but the manner in which the Windies treated him suggests they believe they can score more freely off him than any other bowler.

The Windies adopted a notably more aggressive strategy against him and scored 44 runs off five over-deliveries on the second day of the first Test.

Lyon's only wicket was that of tailender Kemar Roach and with figures of 1-94, it was the most he had conceded in 11 Tests. (ANI)
