Hyderabad, April 9 (IANS) In yet another shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh, a woman gave birth to a child on the road after a government-run hospital allegedly refused to attend her.

The incident, the second in three days in the state, took place early Monday at Banswada town in Nizamabad district, about 220 km from Hyderabad.

Padma, 35, a resident of Chinna Kodangal village, arrived at the hospital around 3 a.m. The relatives accompanying her alleged that the hospital staff refused to admit her.

The pregnant woman left the government-run facility and was heading for a private hospital when she developed labour pains and delivered a baby on the road.

Shocked over the apathy of the hospital staff, the locals lodged strong protest. The hospital later admitted both the mother and the newborn, who were safe and recovering.

The district health authorities have ordered a probe.

A similar incident took place in Bhongir town of Nalgonda district April 7. The woman gave birth to the child on the road after doctors at a government hospital referred her to a hospital in Hyderabad.
