Tiger Woods' Augusta performance worst in his professional career

London, Mon, 09 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 9(ANI): Former World champion Tiger Woods experienced the worst Masters of his professional career this season, as a last-round 74 dropped him to five over par.

Woods 72-hole total of 293 is two worse than his previous highest score since he missed the cut for the only time as an amateur in 1996.

He scored a three-over-par total in 2007, as he finished runner-up to Zach Johnson, with just two shots adrift in difficult scoring conditions.

Woods could not blame the conditions this time, though, as fellow American Bo van Pelt had already shot an eight-under-par 64, including one of two aces at the 16th yesterday.

He believes for any golfer aiming to win the Augusta National, playing the par fives is very crucial.

"You have to play the par fives here well. You have to play them at least half under par for the week, because there are so many tough pin locations on the par fours and the par threes that it just gets very difficult to make easy birdies," The Sun quoted Woods, as saying.

"If we hit good drives on the four par fives, for the longer hitters, we can all get there in two. The eighth is questionable sometimes depending on the wind. But on the other three we know we can get there," he added. (ANI)
