London, Apr 9(ANI): The British Broadcast Corporation (BBC) has come in for wide scale criticism from golf fans over hiring former England cricketer Michael Vaughan to cover the US Masters golf.
Fans have accused the BBC of "jobs for the boys" by getting the ex-England captain, a regular on Radio 4's Test Match Special, to interview players.
Many fans winced when Vaughan made Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia repeat their on-course hug live on TV.
Some even said using stars with no golf expertise demeaned the broadcasts from the weekend's event in Augusta, Georgia.
"Painful embarrassment for clueless BBC Sport," The Sun quoted one of the fans' tweet, as saying.
"Can you not get even vaguely professional people to interview top world golfers?" questioned another fan.
The BBC, which lost half its live rights at the four-day Masters to Sky, said: "Michael plays golf and knows it well." (ANI)
