Windies eyeing 'trump card' Bishoo to exploit Oz weakness against spin in Bridgetown

Barbados (West Indies), Apr 9(ANI): The West Indies would be looking to make use of Australia's inexperience in Caribbean conditions, by using leg spinner Devendra Bishoo as their trump card against them on a pitch sporting numerous foot marks in Bridgetown.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon was unable to find much help from the bowlers' footmarks, but Bishoo is better placed to extract turn as leg spinners generally impart more revolutions on the ball than their finger-spinning counterparts.

"There's still some rough out there for the spinner. If he [Bishoo] pitches in the right areas, there's some spin in the wicket and things can happen for us," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted veteran Windies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, as saying.

But the Australians do not share the opinion that the rough holds any jinx yet, albeit, they do expect it to become more dangerous as the match wears on, which would be a disadvantage for them, as they would have to bat in the last innings.

"The footmarks are always going to come into play at some stage. There's no doubt with having a leg-spinner it gives him an opportunity to throw it into the foot marks but they're not really dusting up too much," Australia's vice captain Shane Watson said.

"There will be a little bit of variable bounce and turn out of those foot marks at some stage but they aren't dusting up at the moment, which is normally when you get the big turn," he added.

"Towards the later part of the game when the wicket starts to break up maybe it will dust up a little bit more," he said. (ANI)
