Sydney, Apr 9 (ANI): Sri Lanka has denied involvement in the abduction of an Australian man missing despite his wife claiming that he had been taken by 'secret police'.
Premakumar Gunaratnam, 42, from New South Wales, went missing late last week from Kiribathigodaj, a commercial hub in Colombo.
According to news.com.au, he is a political activist with the People's Struggle Movement in Sri Lanka.
Gunaratnam's wife Champa Somaratna has said that she fears for her husband's life following reports from neighbours that he has been abducted.
"We know the secret police have taken him. This is a life and death matter, I'm really worried," she told ABC Radio.
According to the report, Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in Canberra Thisara Samarasinghe has said Colombo has categorically denied allegations that public authorities have kidnapped the man.
"We don't have kidnapping by our Government," Samarasinghe said, adding that the Sri Lankan Government had no record of an Australian passport holder of Gunaratnam's name entering Sri Lanka in the recent past. (ANI)
