London, Apr 8(ANI): Barcelona striker Lionel Messi scored two goals during his team's 4-1 win over Spanish La Liga side Real Zaragoza on Saturday, to go past the 60-goal mark this season.
Messi became the first European top-flight player to achieve this fantastic achievement in over 40 years, the BBC reports.
Bayern Munich legend Gerd Muller holds the all-time record for goals in a season, as he netted 67 times during the 1972-73 season for the Bavarian outfit, and Messi is just seven goals behind him.
Messi has scored 38 goals in La Liga this season, and a further 14 in the Champions League, including five in the last 16 second leg win over Bayer Leverkusen in March.
Messi has also netted twice in the Copa del Rey, three times in the Supercopa, one in the Uefa Super Cup and two in the Club World Cup. (ANI)
