PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti slams Abdullah government over misgovernance, scams

Jammu, Sat, 07 Apr 2012 ANI

Jammu, Apr.7 (ANI): Opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday flayed the Omar Abdullah-led Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday, charging it with misgovernance and involvement in various corruption-related scams.

"We are not making any baseless allegations because right now the major issues confronting the state include misgovernance, lack of development, corruption and crime," Mufti told a news conference here.

"The biggest issue is of unemployment. Even employed people are agitating on the streets. Either they do not get salaries regularly or else only half the salary is given. Whether they are casual labourers, daily wagers, teachers or contractors, everyday you can see that they are protesting and are being baton charged. In reply to this, government says that they do not have sufficient funds but unfortunately on the other side there is a surge in illegal appointments," said Mufti.

Like many developing societies around the globe, Kashmir is experiencing a "youth bulge", where 71 percent of the population is under the age of 35.

Of the large number of youth between the ages of 18 to 30 in the Kashmir Valley, an estimated 48 percent are currently unemployed.

Mufti also slammed national parties for not raising their voice against the cricket scam worth millions of rupees to the state.

"I feel, that somewhere the national parties in New Delhi and I would also like to mention the name of BJP(Bharatiya Janata Party) who did not utter a word even after such a big scam occurred in Jammu and Kashmir, and it shows that they also facilitate such things in the state," said Mufti. (ANI)
