London, Apr 6(ANI): The England and Wales Cricket Board has charged former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria with corruption offences, along with Mervyn Westfield, and both of them faces a worldwide ban from the game.
Both Kaneria and Westfield face lengthy bans from the game if found culpable by a tribunal, which will be chaired by Gerard Elias QC, chairman of the ECB's cricket discipline commission.
The hearing is likely to be held in the first week of May, and will be the first time Kaneria has been charged with offences relating to the spot fixing that occurred at Essex in 2009.
Westfield was sentenced to four months in prison for accepting a 6,000-pound bung to under perform in a 40 over match for Essex against Durham, The Telegraph reports.
Kaneria is currently playing first-class cricket in Pakistan, but faces a worldwide suspension if found guilty by the commission.
All cricket boards have arranged to recognize bans for corruption handed down in a different jurisdiction.
The hearing is likely to be held behind closed doors and will feature witnesses including Tony Palladino, the former Essex bowler who tipped off the authorities about Westfield's offence (ANI)
