Assam Rifles organizes medical camp at Moreh in Manipur for civilians

Imphal, Apr 6 (ANI): More than one thousand people visited a medical camp where free medical treatment and medicines were provided by the doctors of Assam Rifles and Rotary Club of Imphal, with specialisation in different fields.

The occasion was also used to raise awareness about cancer among the people.

"As you are aware that Assam rifles being virtue of the guardians of the sentinels of the east we are carrying out a lot of development activities in terms of infrastructure development, provision of solar lights and IT tours, etc," said Upendra Dwivedi, Brigadier, 26th Sector Assam Rifles.

Several patients from Tamu town of Myanmar, which is adjacent to Moreh, also attended the camp, helping in strengthening ties between the two border towns.

Interactive sessions were also organized to raise awareness among the people about border management.

"The medical camp has benefited us a lot. We got free medical checkups and medicines. I have an eye problem, so I came here for treatment. I have been given spectacles here. I hope to get better after taking the medicines that I have been given," said Henminthang Haokip, a local.

Manipur shares a 400 km long border with Myanmar. Many anti-India insurgent groups based in the country send arms, narcotics and militants to India through across the border.

Such camps and initiatives help in strengthening ties between the people and the security forces and this helps in better management of the border areas. (ANI)
