US describes $10m bounty on JuD chief Saeed 'sweetener' to provide evidence

Washington, Fri, 06 Apr 2012 ANI

Washington, Apr 6 (ANI): US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner has described the 10 million dollar bounty on Jammat -ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed as a "sweetener" to enable people to come forward and give evidence against him, adding that the US was maintaining close contact with India over the issue.

Toner said that Saeed was basking in the media attention and added "he is hiding in plain sight."

He also described the Indo-Pak talks plan as a win-win situation for the US, The Express Tribune reports.

On being asked if the US was trying to split the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) by placing a bounty on Saeed, Toner stressed his country not playing a strategic game and wanted someone to provide evidence against Saeed.

He added that US believes that Saeed was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and pointed out that the LeT had carried out attacks on the Srinagar Airport, a hotel in Kabul, the Indian Parliament and on a train in India in the past. (ANI)
