Mumbai, April 5 (IANS) Infrastructure major Hindustan Construction Co along with Coastal Projects Ltd has been awarded a Rs.1.62 billion project to construct a railway tunnel in Manipur, an official said Thursday.
The tunnel will link Kambirom Road and Thingou stations on the new railway line coming up between Jiribam and Tupul in Imphal.
The project, involving a single line broad guage railway tunnel 3.30 km long, is expected to be completed in 28 months.
This is the third such order HCC has been awarded from the North Frontier Railway on the Jiribam-Tupul section.
Two years ago, HCC bagged contracts to construct two tunnels, 3.25 km and 4.70 km long, for a broad guage railway line.
HCC is noted for various mega-infrastructure projects including Kolkata Metro, Delhi Metro, the treacherous Mumbai-Pune Express, the Rajiv Gandhi Bandra Worli Sea Link, and power generation and nuclear projects.
