Guwahati, April 5 (IANS) Police in Assam's Karbi Anglong district Thursday morning arrested one person, suspected to be an ex-militant of a Karbi outfit, sources said.
The person, identified as Kalam Singh alias Dulal Singh, was arrested from Baithalangso area with a .9mm pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition.
Police said he was a former member of the United Peoples' Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), a Karbi militant outfit, which signed a peace accord with the central government last year.
UPDS was formed in 1999 with the merger of the erstwhile Karbi People's Front (KPF) and Karbi National Volunteers (KNV). The outfit had been observing a ceasefire with the central government since 2002 till the signing of the peace accord last year.
