Lucknow, April 5 (IANS) The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) Thursday proposed developing Firozabad, a town near Agra, as a model of the ambitious 'smart grid-smart city' project that would add a new dimension to power distribution.
The proposal was mooted at a high-level meeting between PGCIL chairman and managing director R.N. Nayak and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. In a presentation given to the chief minister, Nayak informed in detail about the plans and projects of the PGCIL in the coming five years.
Nayak also proposed that with a view to increasing transmission in the state and to encourage investment, PGCIL and the UP Power Transmission Corporation should join hands for a Joint Venture (JV). The JV would ensure transmission of power with an eye to production and demand in the state, the official added.
The chief minister asked the PGCIL delegation to send him proposals in this regard within 45 days and assured them that these would be dealt with by his office on top priority.
