Blind fans to enjoy Euro 2012

Ukraine,Sports, Wed, 04 Apr 2012 IANS

Kiev (Ukraine), April 4 (IANS) Some blind football fans will get an opportunity to follow Euro 2012 matches at Ukrainian and Poland stadiums through headphones with live game comments.

The head of the Ukrainian National Assembly of Disabled, Valery Sushkevich, made the announcement here.

"There will be special commentators prepared to provide additional information for people who cannot see events on the football field. These commentators have to describe the action on the field, but not to talk about statistics or analyze what is happening in a match. Audio description would enable the blind person to get a complete picture of the game," Sushkevich was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Currently, some Ukrainian specialists are training volunteers to comment on football matches for blind people, Sushkevich added Tuesday.

The Union of European Football Association (UEFA) will install special equipment with microphones and headphones on each of the eight Euro 2012 stadiums, Sushkevich said, adding nearly 30 disabled people can follow every match of Euro 2012 through this initiative.

The 16-nation Euro 2012 soccer championship, slated for June 8-July 1, will take place in four Ukrainian cities (Kiev, Lvov, Donetsk and Kharkov) and four Polish cities (Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan).
