Madrid, April 4 (IANS) Alex Corretja, the captain of the Spanish Davis Cup tennis team, said Wednesday that his side would approach its quarterfinal tie against Austria with humility.
The reigning Davis Cup holders play at home in Oropesa del Mar, on the east coast of Spain.
Corretja will be without Rafael Nadal, but will welcome the return of David Ferrer, who has won all 12 games he had played on clay this year. Ferrer will make up the team along with Nicolas Almagro, Marcelo Granollers and Marc Lopez.
Although the Spanish are clear favourites in the tie which begins Friday, Corretja knows Austria actually has a good record against the Spanish in the tournament with three wins out of four previous meetings.
"We are going into this tie with respect and humility, We are going to take it point by point. All we are going to do is think about our team and in doing things well," he said.
Meanwhile, Ferrer attempted to take pressure off himself in his return to the team.
"I don' t have a special obligation, nor am I the number one. All of us have our role to play and it was the same when Rafa (Nadal) was here. If I don' t win my game, then there are others who can help us win the round. What is clear is that we have to be united between all four of us and the captain if we want to win," he said.
Ferrer and Almagro will play the singles ties Friday, while Granollers and Lopez will be play the doubles.
