PM condoles passing away of veteran politician N.K.P. Salve

New Delhi, Apr 2 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has condoled the passing away of former Union Minister N.K.P. Salve.

In his condolence message to the departed leader's son Harish Salve, Dr. Singh described N.K.P Salve as a distinguished leader who left a lasting imprint in different areas of public life.

"I was deeply grieved to hear of the sad demise of your father N.K.P.Salve. Salve was a veteran politician who served the country in different capacities over many decades. He served with distinction in the Union Cabinet and held the important portfolio of Power," said Dr. Singh.

"Salve was a man of varied interests and he made lasting contributions in the promotion of education in Maharashtra and sports in the country. He worked hard to develop cricket in the country and was closely associated with the 1987 World Cup, which was held in the subcontinent," he added.

The Prime Minister further said in N.K.P. Salve's demise the country has lost a senior and distinguished leader who left a lasting imprint in different areas of public life

"Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing away of Shri N.K.P.Salve. May God give you strength to bear this irreparable loss," said Dr. Singh.

Salve, 90, died on Sunday morning at a private hospital due to age-related problems.

Salve is survived by son Harish Salve, an advocate, and daughter Arundhati. His wife had predeceased him some time back.

Born in Chhinwada, Madhya Pradesh, Salve was associated with cricket administration for several years. The Challenger Trophy was named after him.

He also served as Union Cabinet Minister of several ministries. (ANI)
