Bangkok, Apr 1 (ANI): At least 14 people have reportedly been killed and over 100 wounded in a series of deadly explosions in a southern province of Thailand on Saturday.
The first batch of explosives planted inside a parked truck ripped through a busy area of restaurants and shops in Yala city, said district police chief Kritsada Kaewchandee.
About 20 minutes later, as people gathered at the blast site, a second car bomb exploded, causing most of the casualties.
According to The Herald Sun, 11 people were killed and 110 wounded by the second blast.
Pramote Promin, deputy spokesman of a regional security agency, described it as 'the worst attack in the past few years.'
"The suspected insurgents were targeting people's lives. They (chose) a bustling commercial area, so they wanted to harm people," the report quoted Promin, as saying.
According to the report, another blast on Saturday hit a high-rise hotel in the city of Hat Yai, in the nearby province of Songkhla.
Regional police chief Jakthip Chaijinda said the Hat Yai incident 'is likely related to what happened in Yala and might have been plotted by the same group of insurgents.' (ANI)
