Chidambaram releases 'police drill manual' and 'data on police organisations in India'

New Delhi, Mar 30 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday released two books titled 'Police Drill Manual' and 'Data on Police Organisations in India.'

Releasing the book Chidambaram appreciated the hard work done by Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) officials, CAPFs and State Police in updating these publications, which will be useful to the field formations as an important reference book.

Chidambaram said that Police drill plays very crucial role in developing discipline and should be scrupulously followed.

He also said that the data on police population ratio, armed police and civilian police and sanctioned posts vis a vis vacancies is very useful and relevant. These need to be updated yearly to monitor the quality of police mechanism and take necessary action.

Published after 16 years, the police drill manual will serve as a foundation of better discipline in all forces.

The last decade has witnessed the introduction of new weapons, operational gear, new uniform patterns and various drills. In order to achieve uniformity in drill procedure, the BPR and D has formulated this revised edition for the guidance of the police instructors.

'Data on Police Organizations in India' is one of the many initiatives of the BPR and D to present, to all the stakeholders in the criminal justice system in general and police officials in particular, such information that gives them access to and an insight into basic and vital statistics about police administration all over the country.

It is a source of valuable data about police that can be put to diverse use such as planning infrastructure building undertaking research projects as also objective and empirical inputs for policy decisions in respect of police and policing in the country. (ANI)
