Kallis cleared to play in T20 match between Proteas, India

Johannesburg, Thu, 29 Mar 2012 ANI

Johannesburg, Mar 29(ANI): South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been cleared to play in a one-off Twenty20 match between South Africa and India at the Wanderers.

"Jacques' neck has fully recovered. The scan revealed a small tear, and he should be fit to play," Sport 24 quoted Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee, as saying.

Money raised from Wanderers' game will be donated to the Jacques Kallis Foundation, which recognises and develops young cricket talent by awarding scholarships.

Kallis had missed the last Test between South Africa and New Zealand, which ended in a draw.

The 36-year-old is one of South Africa's greatest cricketers, having played 489 international matches in all three formats of the game.

He is one of only four batsmen to have scored over 12 000 runs in Test cricket, at an average of 56.78, and one of only six players to have hit over 11 000 ODI runs, boasting an average of 45.26. (ANI)
