New Delhi, Mar.28 (ANI): Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived here on Wednesday to attend the fourth BRICS Summit.
Medvedev flew into the Indian capital from South Korean capital Seoul, where he had attended the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit with global leaders and representatives from over 50 countries.
Minister of State for Telecommunications Sachin Pilot, and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai received Medvedev on his arrival.
Commencing on Thursday, the BRICS Summit brings together leaders of five of the world's major emerging economies - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff, Chinese Premier Hu Jintao, South African President Jacob Zuma, besides Medvedev.
On Tuesday, a meeting of BRICS Sherpas was held in New Delhi.
BRICS leaders are expected to discuss the global economy and closer coordination amongst the BRICS members along with boosting trade relations and investment.
Institutionalized in September 2006, the BRICS group-evolving from the BRIC term coined by Goldman Sachs in 2001-has emerged as a loose united front to press the rich Western economies, especially the United States, which traditionally dominated global diplomacy.
The addition of South Africa added another continent, making the group seem ever more like a platform to voice the concerns of the developing world. (ANI)
