Will raise General Singh's bribe claims in Parliament: BJP

New Delhi, Mon, 26 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar.26 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that the opposition would corner the government in Parliament over Army Chief General V.K. Singh's claim that he was offered bribe of Rs.14 crore by an equipments lobbyist to sanction approval for the purchase of 600 sub-standard vehicles.

He said that the BJP has given a notice for the suspension of the Question Hour.

Javadekar said: "What General VK Singh has said is a serious matter. We will raise this matter in Parliament. This shows the worst state of affairs in this country. The government is neck-deep in corruption."

General Singh had earlier told the national daily 'The Hindu' that "he was offered a bribe worth Rs.14 crore by an equipment lobbyist in order to have a tranche of 600 sub-standard vehicles of a particular made cleared for purchase.

General Singh said, "One of these men had the gumption to walk up to me and tell me that if I cleared the tranche, he would give me Rs.14 crore. He was offering a bribe to me, to the Army Chief. He told me that people had taken money before me and they will take money after me."

He also said that he reported the incident to Defence Minister Antony.

When asked how the army chief could be offered a bribe, he said, "Obviously somewhere our standards of probity and integrity have fallen." (ANI)
