Bhubaneswar, Mar.26 (ANI): Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday heaved a sigh of relief over the release of one of the two Italian tourists, Claudio Colangelo, who was abducted by Maoists.
Patnaik appealed to the rebels to release BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka and the other Italian hostage immediately 'unharmed'.
"I appeal, more strongly to the abductors of this young tribal MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) to release him, immediately and unharmed, that this young tribal MLA of our Orissa assembly should be released immediately and unharmed," Patnaik told media here.
Colangelo was abducted along with his friend Paolo Bosusco on March 14.
"I am very glad that Claudio Colangelo was released yesterday and was returned to state capital Bhubaneswar and is safe," he said.
Maoists have demanded a ban on tourists-Indian or foreign-in tribal areas and a halt in operations by government forces against the rebels.
Colangelo's release came the day after talks between the government and rebel-nominated negotiators collapsed.
Hikaka was kidnapped on Saturday. (ANI)
