Afridi apologises for punching fan at Karachi airport

Islamabad, Sat, 24 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad: Pakistan flamboyant cricketer Shahid Afridi has apologised to Pakistan's cricket fans over his outrageous reaction at Karachi Airport on returning home after winning the Asia Cup.

Afridi, who was coming out of Karachi Airport after arriving from Bangladesh, lost his temper and punched a fan in the face when the latter begged him for an autograph.

Afridi said he could not control his temper when the cheering crowd almost crushed his three-year-old daughter who was waiting to welcome him with flowers, The News reports.

Reports suggest that he was unhappy and was seen almost running out of the airport with a swarm of his admirers in tow.

After repeated gestures of annoyance, which failed to deter the crowd, he punched one of them.

Afridi's brother later said the cricketer lost his temper when the crowd almost trampled his (Afridi's) daughter.

He said reckless fans did not even care about the three-year old girl, who could have been seriously injured in a stampede like situation. (ANI)
