Rome, March 24 (IANS/AKI) A mobster was released from jail in Italy because the prison served too many beans on its menu and he suffered from allergy to the legumes.
Michele Aiello had been convicted for associating with the mafia. He was sentenced to 15 and a half years in prison.
A judge in Abruzzo region released Aiello to a year of house arrest because of his allergy.
The man was not compatible with the prison's cooking consisting mainly of pasta or rice with peas and bean soup, according to the Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper.
In her ruling, judge Laura Longo said a law governing prisons requires its food to be "adequate, healthy, sufficient for the age, gender, sate of health, work season and climate".
