Warner says he'd prefer Test matches to 'lucrative' IPL

Melbourne, Fri, 23 Mar 2012 ANI

Melbourne, Mar 23(ANI): Australian opener David Warner has said if he was provided with a choice between playing Tests and the lucrative Twenty20 tournament, he would go for the former.

"Definitely not. My goal as a kid was to get the baggy green and I'm here at this moment opening the batting. I'm trying to take my opportunity and trying to cement my place there. I'm 100 per cent Test cricket over IPL any day," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Warner, as saying.

"They've (West Indians) got to make their minds up on what they want and what they're benefiting out of it - if it's money, then it's money. It's their choice," he added.

Warner also said his immediate priority was to guide Australia to victory in the fourth one-dayer in St Lucia on Friday.

Warner had a first look at the Beausejour Stadium wicket for today's match, saying d he liked it, as compared to the slow and spinning pitches in St Vincent.

"It looks similar to the WACA with that nice shine and a bit of grass. It's probably not going to come through as much as the WACA does, though. A fantastic venue here and the outfield is outstanding as always," Warner said.

Australia has made two changes for the March 23 match with Peter Forrest and Ben Hilfenhaus replacing Nathan Lyon and Dan Christian.

The West Indies are yet to announce their team, but it is certain that opener Adrian Barath will replace Kieron Powell in the squad for the last two ODIs. (ANI)
