Rio de Janeiro, March 23 (IANS) Corinthians football team head coach Tite ha expressed his frustration with veteran striker Liedson. The 34-year-old has not scored a goal since November, 2011.
Liedson is currently on a 12-game scoreless slump. He has gone 977 minutes without scoring, something he has never experienced in his entire career.
The striker's last goal came on Nov 27 in the team's 1-0 win over Figueirense in the 2011 Brazilian Championship.
Frustrated with his lack of goals, Tite is considering not only benching the striker, but releasing him from the team. The coach was dissatisfied with Liedson's performance during his team's 1-0 win over Mexico's Cruz Azul March 21 in the Libertadores Cup, Xinhua reported.
In relation to his recent performance, Liedson stated that his slump is not a conscious decision or due to a lack of effort. He pleaded for patience and said that a goal will come in due time.
For the meantime, Tite has replaced Liedson on the starting roster with Emerson Sheik.
Corinthians' next challenge will be against arch rivals Palmeiras March 25 in the 15th round of the 2012 Sao Paulo state championship.
