The Hague, March 23 (IANS) Heracles Almelo secured its first berth in the final of the Dutch Cup by shocking Eredivisie leaders AZ Alkmaar 4-2.
Heracles took an early lead Thursday through a header by Everton Ramos da Silva, but AZ playing at home bounced back with two goals within two minutes, by Adam Maher and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Xinhua reported.
The home team got chance after chance to book their place in the semi-final, but were woeful in front of goal. Heracles in the second half punished AZ for their missed chances and equalized through a header by Kwame Quansah.
In the final minutes of regular playing time, both teams had opportunities, but the match went into extra time.
Substitutes Thomas Bruns and Ninos Gouriye scored in the extra time for Heracles as AZ's hopes of a domestic double came to an end with the 2-4 loss.
Heracles will meet PSV Eindhoven, who beat Heerenveen Wednesday, in the final April 8 in Rotterdam.
