Dhaka, Mar 22 (ANI): A Bangladesh court has ordered authorities to shut down five Facebook pages and a website for insulting Prophet Mohammed and other religions.
The case was brought by two teachers from Dhaka University and Dhaka Centre for Law and Economics, who said some pictures on the website hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims.
Muhammad Nawshad Zamir, the lawyer who brought the petition, said that some images were close to pornography.
He said the pages also contained disparaging remarks about 'the holy book of the Koran, Jesus, Lord Buddha and Hindu gods,' The BBC reports.
Zamir said that the High Court in Bangladesh has asked authorities to find out who posted the cartoons and comments online.
He declined to name the Bengali-language website and said that the government has been given three weeks to report developments to the court.
Meanwhile, some bloggers in the country have raised concerns that the ruling is curbing free speech. (ANI)
