Bright spots on giant asteroid 'puzzling'

London, Mar 22 (ANI): A NASA spacecraft has captured bright spots on the surface of a giant asteroid that represent some of the purest materials ever seen.

The scientists analysing the surface find these spots quite mystifying.

NASA released new images of the asteroid Vesta taken by the orbiting Dawn spacecraft that show some places on the surface twice as bright as others, the Daily Express reported.

The bright material, found predominantly around craters, appeared as a consequence of rocks slamming into the surface and exposing it.

Researchers are still trying to find out about what it is made of but believe it to be pristine and unchanged since the asteroid's formation nearly four billion years ago. (ANI)
