London, Mar 21(ANI): England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke has refuted criticism that screening of county matches in India has exposed it to corruption.
Giles, who was unanimously re-elected for his third tenure to lead English cricket, said there is nothing much that can be done to prevent it, as people will still watch it streamed illegally on the internet.
He also made it clear that the negotiations for a new Asian broadcasting deal would continue, as it will make the cricket board much more financially stable.
"There is nothing we can do because people will only watch it streamed illegally on the internet instead. It is better for us to deal with the matter by policing our own people so there isn't the activity in our dressing rooms," The Telegraph quoted Clarke, as saying.
"They [broadcast rights] are a critical part of the very strong financial position that English cricket finds itself in. We have a really good domestic deal with Sky that takes us to 2019 in my view [they have an option to extend beyond 2017] and I am looking for an Asian deal that will take us to that time," he said
"That certainty of income for any British business is a rarity and most people would give their right arms for it," he added. (ANI)
