London, Mar 17(ANI): Manchester United's stand in captain Patrice Evra has said the club needs to win the Premier League now to save their disastrous season.
On top of their group stage exit of the Champions League, Evra admits it has been an inexcusable season on their foreign travels.
United has fared badly this year in European competitions, getting eliminated from the group stages first in the Champions League, and then bowing out of the last sixteen round of the Europa League to Spanish team Athletic Bilbao.
Evra believes United got what they deserved, and the way they performed especially at home in European competitions wasn't up to the mark.
"From the beginning this season it has been a disaster, first in the Champions League and now in the Europa League. We have to tell the truth. We never played well and we deserve to go out," The Sun quoted Evra, as saying.
"We never played in Europe with the same desire that we show in the Premier League. We have to accept that," he said.
"We have to focus on the League and if we want to save the season we have to win the League because if we don't we would have had a really bad season. We don't deserve to be in the Champions League or in the Europa League. That's it," he added.
United's title assault of late has been impressive, taking 22 points from the last 24 which makes the European disappointment all the more difficult to explain.
Evra believes they have simply concentrated more on their pursuit of City than European glory.
Evra said: "We are more focused in the Premier League." (ANI)
