Delhi Police issues warrant against three Iranian suspects in Israel car bomb case

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Friday informed that warrant against three persons of Iranian origin, namely, Houshan Afshar, Syed Ali Mehdi Sadr and Mohammad Reza Abolghasemi, have been issued in connection with the February 13 Israel car bomb attack.

 

The accused have been identified the by the investigative authorities as to have been in touch with Syed Mohammad Ahmed Kazmi, the key accused in the incident, who was arrested earlier.

 

Speaking to mediapersons in a press conference, Delhi Police Commissioner Brijesh Gupta said that Mohammad Kazmi during his interrogation confessed of having contacts with people of Iranian origin and facilitating them to recce the areas near the Israel Embassy.

 

"During the technical and field investigations of this case, Mr. Syed Mohammad Ahmed Kazmi, a resident of B.K. Dutt colony was arrested on March 6. After his arrest, the conspiracy behind this militant attack was uncovered. He was also instrumental in getting the Israeli Embassy and its surrounding areas recced by the suspected persons of Iranian origin," said Gupta.

 

Gupta further said that Kazmi and Houshan Afshar had recced the area around the embassy and made the decision to target Israeli diplomats.

 

"He also disclosed that at the insistence of Syed Ali Sadr Mehndi, a person of Iranian origin, he was introduced to Houshan Afshar and he along with Irani recced the area around the Israel Embassy. They used a scooty for this recce, which was procured by Houshan Afshar. During this recce they decided to target Israeli diplomats," Gupta said.

 

Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson had earlier in the day said that the Iranian Ambassador had been informed about these developments in order to seek the cooperation of Iranian authorities in the probe.

 

At least four persons were injured, including the wife of an Israeli defence attach? working at the Israel Embassy, when an embassy car exploded into flames near the high-security Aurangzeb Road Crossing in New Delhi.

 

The Delhi Police had earlier arrested a freelance journalist Mohammed Kazmi, working for Iranian news agency, in connection with the attack. (ANI)
