Swiss probe of Zardari graft case possible if Pak abolishes immunity

Islamabad, Fri, 16 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 16(ANI): Switzerland can start probing the alleged money- laundering cases against Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari if Pakistan abolishes the presidential immunity, the Pakistan Government's attorney, FranAois Micheli, has said.

Micheli, who is following up on Zardari's case in the Swiss courts, said the Pakistan government can write a letter to the Swiss authorities to inquire about frozen assets in Switzerland, but the authorities cannot start investigating them because Zardari enjoys immunity in Pakistan.

He said that if these assets are transferred somewhere, it will invoke another breach of the law related to money-laundering, the Dawn reports.

Micheli said that the Swiss cases would be opened only after observing all legalities.

"If they are in the Swiss banks they would be seized," he added. (ANI)
