Chelsea custodian Cech says next two weeks 'most crucial' for club

London, Fri, 16 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 16(ANI): Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that the coming two weeks could make or break the club's current season.

The Czech star was lauded by all for a string of brilliant saves during Chelsea's 4-1 astounding victory over Napoli at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday during last 16 round of the Champions League.

But he believes all the heroics of this week would count for nothing unless Chelsea maintain that level of performance in their next four crucial games.

"In the next two weeks we have the chance to reach the FA Cup semi-finals, third place in the Premier League and take a big step in the Champions League quarter-finals," The Sun quoted Cech, as saying.

"One week ago, everything looked really bad for Chelsea but football is so crazy that it has all changed around. We won against Birmingham and Stoke and then came back from 3-1 down to beat Napoli and, suddenly, it all looks completely different for us," he said.

Cech believes the change of manager has worked out well for the club, as it did in 2009, when then manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked following a series of disappointing results, and then Guus Hiddink took over as interim manager.

Chelsea went on to win the FA cup under Hiddink.

"On Sunday, we play Leicester in the FA Cup, then we have two huge Premier League games against Manchester City and Tottenham before the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals," Cech said.

"We are still on track to do what we did in 2009 when we changed the manager in mid-season but, in two weeks' time, this season could look completely different again - in a good way or a bad one," he said.

"It's not about who is the boss but when there is a big change you try to do everything you can to improve the situation. That is what happened when Scolari left and now it is quite similar," he added. (ANI)
